Asset Administration Shell is is the digital representation of an asset. An asset can be elements such as factories, production systems, equipment, machines, components, produced products and raw materials and more. It is a specification of Industrie 4.0. In this article I propose that the concept of asset types as templates of asset instances can be expressed more robustly with the parallel concept of interfaces of object oriented programming languages.
